Design skills are becoming highly sought after in the recruitment process for media and communication graduates. Now, not all of us are blessed with the design genes that help you make anything look amazing, or can afford the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite ($72.59 a month eep!). Luckily for us, there’s an amazing graphic design website that you may or may not have heard of which is essentially idiot proof.

Canva is Australia’s largest growing startup and has been in action since 2012. Founder Melanie Perkins was teaching students how to use programs such as InDesign and Photoshop and found students struggling to learn the basics and thought there had to be an easier way. A few years later and two partners by her side, Canva was launched.

Canva has thousands of templates for all document types and graphs as well as functions for photo editing – who needs Adobe! You can spruce up your resume and cover letter with a heap of easy to use templates, edit your social media posts to get those likes and even make infographics for just about anything. You can choose a template you like from Canva and tweak it to what you require or you can have complete creative control and start from scratch!

With a plethora of resources for users to advance their skills and produce amazing visual content, Canva is a free platform with the option of subscribing month-by-month for premium features. Available for all users is the Canva Design School and Courses, tutorials on how to use the functions, ideas as well as teaching materials.

Canva is the resource us students have been waiting for to increase our skills for upcoming interviews, jobs or even just assignments you want to make look extra special. It is easy on the bank account and even easier on the eyes. If you don’t believe me, just check out this infographic I made in under 5 minutes about how easy it is to use Canva…
