Growing Popularity of Podcasts

You may or may not have noticed lately that podcasts are essentially taking over the world. Not really, but the traction they have been gaining in recent times has been exponential.

Podcasts are Australia’s fastest growing content medium with a whopping 54% of users admitting to purchasing something after hearing about it on a podcast. The massive and ongoing steady growth is a result of our exhaustion of screens, podcasts production value and the constant access to the internet and its’ mobility. The once exciting new world of scrolling for hours on your computer or phone screen has begun to fade with a dramatic rise of video popularity steering away from the historical characteristics of the Internet.

Podcasts now represent a rather refreshing alternative by gaining access to genuine human connection, something that has been lacking by allowing the listener to feel like they are right there with the recording. Not only that, it frees up so much more time to do other tasks.

Now what does this have to do with me? (You may be asking) Well whether you’re an aspiring media professional looking to jump on the podcast bandwagon or if you’re just someone who is sick of staring at a screen for countless hours, there’s a whole lot we can learn from podcasts.

Science, radio, conversational, inspirational, informational – you name it there’s a podcast for it. So, without further ado here’s our top five favourite podcasts (right now)!
